1. Information We Collect
When you use Markup, we collect the following information:
- Account information: Your name, email address, and profile picture provided through your authentication provider (e.g., Google).
- Usage data: Hearing URLs you submit, summaries generated, and chat interactions with the AI.
- Payment information: If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number or banking details. We receive only a subscription status, customer ID, and billing email from Stripe.
- Technical data: Browser type, device information, and IP address collected automatically through server logs.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the Markup service
- To process hearing transcriptions and generate AI summaries
- To manage your account and subscription
- To send you email notifications about completed hearing analyses
- To improve our service and fix bugs
- To comply with legal obligations
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Markup:
- Stripe for payment processing. Stripe's Privacy Policy
- OpenAI for audio transcription (Whisper API). Submitted audio is processed and not retained by OpenAI per their API data usage policy.
- Anthropic for AI summary generation (Claude API). Transcript text is processed and not used for model training per their API terms.
- Supabase for database hosting and authentication.
4. Data Retention
Your hearing data (transcripts, summaries, chat history) is retained as long as your account is active. You may delete individual hearings at any time. If you delete your account, all associated data will be permanently removed within 30 days.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), secure authentication, and access controls. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Opt out of non-essential communications
7. Cookies
We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.
8. Children's Privacy
Markup is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
